I have never wanted to work for somebody else. That’s it, I’ve said it. That pretty much sums it up for me. I honestly don’t think I will ever be truly content with my work life unless I am the product of my own design and can work when and how I choose to. I have a huge amount of respect for all of the entrepreneurs out there who have made a success of themselves. You could say they act as my role models in that sense.

My desire to work for myself stems from a number of different factors. I have never much liked dealing with the political bullshit that you often come up against in organisations and despite feeling satisfaction at doing a job well or doing something to the best of my ability it still falls short of what I think of as being ‘successful’.

Being successful at something you have created, built up and rolled out all by yourself is what cuts the mustard for me. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing but admiration for those who enjoy lengthy rewarding careers in industry and commerce or indeed the private sector. Being the Chief Executive of a large organisation for example – WOW, imagine that! These sorts of people must be super smart and I really do look up to them. I don’t think that’s for me though!

I have worked as a professional contractor (as a project accountant) for at least 10years now. I actually think I’m pretty good at what I do. I have never had a problem getting a job and until either I find my niche on the road to entrepreneurship or I become less financially constrained where I can experiment at doing less paid but potentially more rewarding jobs then this is what I will continue to do for the foreseeable. Being a project accountant pays the bills for now!

I do believe however, that it is only a matter of time before I make my mark. Doing this course is actually a step in that direction. At the moment I am committed, motivate and enthused about becoming a life coach and setting up a business as such. Saying that, I don’t think this would be the end for me, but rather a stepping stone onto other things. I am not totally sure what they might be yet but I do have a number of different ideas floating around in my head.

I have already had some experience with branching out into other areas of work or trying my hand at starting a new business. I learn t and taught Spanish and toyed with the idea of teaching in general, I was heavily dedicated to web design at one point in my life and I have tried to master the elusive holy grail of successful stock trading!

I want part of my professional / work life journey to include helping others. I won’t lie and say that this is wholly down to being altruistic. It is partly this but it is also because I believe I am a people person and that I would be happier working and mixing with different people, at least more frequently than I do currently. It is also because I believe helping others would quite simply make me happier full stop. Setting up a business as a life coach has the potential to satisfy two of my most important criteria; being a successful entrepreneur and helping others.
