Of course I want to live a healthy life and be happy at the same time. That said, I realise that achieving those things will inevitably take some effort, a degree of reflection and self analysis form time to time and commitment. Even if all that goes to plan there is no planning in the world I’m sure, that can prepare someone for serious or even terminal ill health.

I am not overweight and I do regular exercise. I believe that eating healthily and keeping in trim is important. I expect that these things will become even more important to me as I get older. After all, the body becomes wearier over time and requires more and more maintenance. I’m no spring chicken but I’m nowhere near the Zimmer frame either so right now all good. I want to make sure it stays that way for as long as I can.

I believe that well being and feeling good about yourself, is partly down to the way you look, partly down to the way you feel physically and partly down to the way you rationalise things. I believe if you look good then you feel good but I also believe there is over doing it. You won’t find me in the gym 5 days a week for example, nor will you see me turning down a drink, the odd smoke or anything else that takes my fancy! It’s all about doing things in moderation. Admittedly I could do with cutting out even the odd smoke, but for now there are no major alarm bells sounding.

I don’t think I would change anything much about my health and well being at the moment (well maybe a few tweaks here and there). I think I am pretty good at gauging where I’m at on the looking / feeling like a pile of crap scale. If things were to start going downhill (like they sometimes do), I would address the situation immediately and attempt to do something about it. I would hope that this continues to be a trait of mine that lasts long into the future.

If I think about well being as being happy, then I am pretty sure that I will need to work on this continuously throughout my life. I think happiness is a commodity that changes over time in response to a whole array of both personal and external factors which are always changing. I would hope that my strength of character is such that that I always act positively to shape my life in a way that ultimately seeks to make me happy. However, I am not naive to think that this will be easy or that the journey will be without its ups and downs. Ultimately well being can be maximised by dealing with what life has to throw at us in a positive, rational manner. (I know – easier said than done sometimes!!!)
